SEARCHING FOR THE GRAVE OF the WILLIE LEE BROWN – outside of Clarksdale: I couldn’t find Prichard, MS on the map… I knew, however, it was near Tunica, off Highway 3 … well, I was not giving up .. WILLIE BROWN of BLUES legend was buried in Prichard .. behind the Good Shepherd Church … dirt roads, rutted, wet, narrow … no signs .. BUT I saw a yellow school bus parked in front of a house, and so I walked on over, knocked and Ronnie came to the door .. a well dressed, married w. kids, dad – school bus driver and all around nice guy .. He had no idea BUT walked me over to another house … where Mr. Morris (his first name) was hanging … he, too, had no idea … Willie Brown? nah .. I remembered reading the cemetery was behind that Church and mentioned its name ..”well, why didn’t you say so” ..there’s only one cemetery in Prichard and THAT cemetery is behind the OLD Good Shepherd Church … Mr. Morris told Ronnie to jump into his truck and told me to follow … down a wet, dirt, rutted, pot holed, narrow narrow narrow ‘road’ …we kept on going .. and THERE IT WAS ..the Church – kinda sorta still standing … and … to be continued, my friend …… 😀
Incredible stuff SD, great story on the search for Willie Lee Browns burial site. Bless you for all your good work and dedication!!
